Empower Kids Network Accessibility Statement

Last updated: September 2, 2026

Our Commitment

Empower Kids Network (“EKN”) is committed to improving the accessibility of empowerkidsnetwork.org so that people with disabilities can access information and use important website functions.

Accessibility is treated as an ongoing design, development, content, and quality responsibility.

Accessibility Target

EKN uses the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as its target technical standard for the public website.

WCAG provides widely recognized guidance for making web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Current Status

The website remains under active development and EKN is not making a formal claim of full WCAG 2.2 AA conformance at this time.

EKN is continuing to evaluate the website as content and functionality are finalized.

This Statement should be updated after meaningful accessibility reviews and whenever significant new functionality affects accessibility.

Measures We Are Taking

EKN’s website design and development approach includes measures such as:

  • semantic page structure;
  • meaningful headings;
  • keyboard-accessible navigation and controls;
  • visible keyboard focus;
  • clear form labels and instructions;
  • accessible validation and status messaging;
  • meaningful alternative text for informative images;
  • appropriate handling of decorative images;
  • color-contrast review;
  • responsive layouts and browser-zoom support;
  • avoiding reliance on color alone for essential meaning;
  • reduced-motion support;
  • clear links and buttons;
  • English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole language handling; and
  • mobile and touch-accessible interactions.

Automated tools may be used as part of accessibility review, but they do not replace manual testing and human evaluation.

Accessibility Feedback and Assistance

If you have difficulty accessing information, navigating a page, using a control, completing a form, or otherwise using an EKN website function, please contact info@empowerkidsnetwork.org.

If convenient, tell us the page or feature involved, what difficulty you encountered, the browser, device, or assistive technology involved if known, and how you would prefer to receive the information or assistance.

You do not need to provide medical information or documentation of a disability to report an accessibility barrier.

EKN will make reasonable efforts to review accessibility feedback and, where practical, provide information or assistance through an alternative method while a barrier is being addressed.

Third-Party Content and Services

Some links or services may lead to websites or systems operated independently from EKN.

Those third parties control their own accessibility practices.

Where a third-party dependency creates an accessibility barrier in an EKN-controlled user journey, EKN welcomes reports so that we can evaluate practical alternatives or remediation.

Ongoing Review

EKN intends to review accessibility as the website evolves, including through combinations of:

  • manual keyboard testing;
  • focus-order review;
  • form and error-state review;
  • zoom and responsive testing;
  • contrast review;
  • reduced-motion review;
  • English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole review;
  • automated accessibility checks; and
  • assistive-technology-oriented testing where feasible.

Because translation quality and accessibility are both ongoing quality responsibilities, EKN should obtain native-speaker review of high-impact Haitian Creole content, especially legal, privacy, safety, and family-action language, as the product moves toward public production use.
